Gastroenterology EUS FAQs
What is EUS Needle?

Endoscopic ultrasonography-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy uses a thin biopsy needle with the guidance of endoscopic ultrasound to perform aspiration biopsy of the corresponding lesion through the endoscopic biopsy tunnel. Through the biopsy, the cytological and histological diagnosis of the diseased tissue can be obtained, so as to clarify the disease and provide a basis for subsequent diagnosis and treatment.

Why EUS Is Performed?

EUS can determine the nature of gastrointestinal submucosal lesions and judge the invasion depth and scope of malignant tumors of the digestive tract, as well as diagnose pancreatic system diseases. The front end of the ultrasound endoscope is equipped with an ultrasound probe. This small probe can approach the lesion, and the probe frequency is greatly increased, so that the image resolution is significantly improved. Therefore, endoscopic ultrasonography has a good diagnostic and therapeutic value for esophagus and stomach protruding lesions.

What To Prepare EUS?
  1. Smoking is forbidden on the first day so as not to affect the intubation; smoking ban can also reduce gastric acid secretion, which is convenient for doctors to observe.

  2. The patient should have an empty stomach for at least 6 hours before the examination.

  3. In order to eliminate the nervousness of the patient, reduce gastric juice secretion and gastric motility, drive out the foam in the stomach, and make the image clearer.

  4. In order to enable the gastroscope to pass through the pharynx smoothly, pharyngeal anesthetics are generally used before gastroscopy.

  5. The patient and the doctor should cooperate.
